Running. It’s about the music

Getting ready for my first race, a 5k. I have been, as I like to say, a semi-regular runner since high school. But never entered a race. And, frankly, at my pace it won’t be much of a race. Still, I’ll have finally entered.

I have been wondering how to approach it. Sure, I run now and then. And I’ve tried to eat right, this week.

What it really comes down to, though, is this question, What is the best playlist?

I’m going with a bit of a slow piece to start, Five for Fighting, “100 Years.” A faster song might be preferable at the gun but I’m thinking preservation of energy.

Following that, an energetic cover of an AC/DC tune.

Aaron Tippin’s  “You’ve Got To Stand For Something” makes sense about now. I’ll be thinking, “you’ve got to keep standing.”

Naturally, the theme to Hawaii Five-O is next. Recall the scene when Steve shows up out of the blue at a beach house to catch the criminal. When the criminal asked how McGarrett could be there, Steve responds, “The beach. I run every morning.” Bam.

“I Will Survive” will follow.

It will be followed by “I Will Survive.”

If a hill is coming up, I will go with, “Turn Up The Radio,” Autograph.

Or “Movin’ On Up,” from The Jeffersons.

The “Car Wash” theme.

And finish up with a long version of “The Green Berets.”

If the finish line still isn’t in sight, I’ll wind down with “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”

And if “all” my training, “strict” diet, new socks, and awesomely excellent playlist do not get me in the top 100 (guaranteed, I hope, due to my expecting fewer than 100 entrants), I might employ the George Costanza fire escape technique.
